Summer Picnic Marriage Proposal
Vatsal reached out to me saying he wanted to propose near mountains with open skies, anywhere in Washington. His long-distance partner was finally moving to Washington, and to celebrate, they were taking a vacation together. The two started dating in school and have been together 11 years.
Ready to start this new chapter, Vatsal wanted to propose soon after his partner arrived in Washington. This meant the proposal would happen in spring. Spring in the mountains is tough. Weather can be unpredictable, seasonal roads in the mountains may or may not be open, and what trails are accessible may still have snow.
Knowing all of that, we gambled and took a leap of faith – planning for a marriage proposal with a picnic on the top of a summit. One week out, the road opened for the season, and we breathed a sigh of relief.
On the day of the proposal, conditions were perfect. It was sunny, the wildflowers were just starting to bloom, and the trail was deserted.
I set up the picnic, including Vatsal’s playlist of “their songs”, their favorite snacks, and wine. Vatsal knew that Shivani would appreciate being dressed up for the proposal and photos, so he told her that he’d booked an exclusive mountaintop dinner. She didn’t suspect a thing until she saw the personalized picnic.
Watching the sunset from 5,000 feet up was the perfect way to start this next chapter of their lives.
Congratulations, Vatsal and Shivani!
