Mount Rainier Sunset Marriage Proposal

Neil is a photographer himself, and while it’s always an honor to be hired by another professional, photographers rarely have many great photos with their loved ones since they’re usually the ones behind the lens.

Thankfully his partner, Riya, called this out, and requested that they dress up for photos during their trip to Washington. Neil saw it as the perfect opportunity to propose.

We worked together to find the perfect trail at Mt Rainier – one with incredible views, but close enough to the parking lot so they could return and change outfits for engagement photos.

On the big day, Neil carried his camera and tripod on the hike, and Riya assumed they’d be taking their own portraits. When they reached the viewpoint Neil had chosen, he set up the camera as if to take photos but secretly switched it to record video.

As Neil got down on one knee, I photographed the proposal from a distance. Riya was surprised by the proposal itself, but even more shocked that Neil had arranged for me to capture the moment.

After a few photos at the proposal site, we returned to the cars so they could change into their photo-ready outfits. With a short walk to a new spot, we ended the evening with engagement photos at sunset surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery.

Congrats again, Neil and Riya!
